Start-Up Brewery helping with Revitalization of Jones Beach

Something’s Brewing in Jones Beach.

Jones Beach is the most popular and heavily visited beach on the East Coast with around six million visitors per year, many of whom could go for a nice cold one. This year the brewing company prepares to establish its location while perfecting a unique product line that preserves historical sites associated with Jones Beach.

In his first official statement regarding the new company, founder and CEO Christopher Mills boasts, “We really appreciate the community’s support and strive to incorporate its rich history in each recipe. Every batch, every keg, shirt and koozie has helped fund this project and save up capital to donate back into the park.”

Having a location by the beach is key for the company; however, the biggest challenge they currently face is meeting the demand for the product in these early stages. “Our circle of friends and family are thirsty. It’s hard to produce enough with only a few five gallon barrels,” says Mike May, brew master of the budding establishment. But they are certainly doing their best.

With their marketing strategy as well as business plan already developed and construction plans of the building underway, they are starting to focus on production goals. By 2020, Jones Beach Brewing Company would like to be churning out approximately 4,000 kegs per year. “We understand the market and we understand the journey, so it’s important for us to take our time” says President Randy Mills when discussing the company’s plans to push their product. The company is excited for what is to come next but is very adamant about doing things right and sticking to their overall goal of creating a reliable and welcoming establishment that serves a consistent product.

As of now, Jones Beach Brewing Company can only offer tastings and pour growlers, but they have their eyes set on obtaining a microbrewery license in the upcoming year. Upon visiting their website and signing up for their mailing list, you could be invited to one of their premiere tasting parties, where you can get a first sip of its flagship “Whale Shark Wheat”,”J.I. IPA” and “Summertime Short Beach Shandy”.

For JBBC, it is not just about brewing tasty suds. The family-oriented company believes that beer brings people together and that a brewery has the power to engage communities while enhancing life and creating jobs. “I want to create a triple bottom line model for the company,” Mills says. “New York State has always supported small businesses. I want to do all I can to create a culture that is collaborative with the parks and design a beer that Robert Moses would appreciate.”

Jones Beach Brewing Company plans to work with neighborhood organizations in order to create a product that will appeal to their core customer: the working class, blue collared individual. Yet, to assure that everyone feels welcomed, JBBC was clear about wanting to create a space that really serves the existing neighborhood and makes everyone feel like they belong.
