SUMAQ Peruvian Food Festival Returns to the Cradle of Aviation
Peruvian Gastronomy Weekend August 25th-August 26th
SUMAQ officially kicks off its 8th edition at the Cradle of Aviation Museum in Garden City, Saturday and Sunday, August 25th & 26th, 2018. With great new participants from Peru and for the first time an indoor VIP experience hosted by SUMAQ 2018 Chef of the Year, Diego Sanchez.
With a variety of over 70 traditional Peruvian dishes, this year’s event is sure to be better than ever! SUMAQ will bring together more than 24 Peruvian food exhibitors including top chefs from Peru and the Tri-state area. “Our mission, in partnership with Peru’s Gastronomic Association (APEGA) is to help promote and disseminate Peruvian cuisine and culture in New York. With the help of Assemblyman Phil Ramos, from District 6, this year, SUMAQ 2018 has been declared as the weekend of Peruvian Gastronomy in the State of New York.
“We strive to showcase the diversity of Peruvian gastronomy as well as talented chefs that are innovating and taking our ancient flavors to another level,” says Vicky Diaz, Festival Founder. SUMAQ’s Chef of the Year Award, will be presented to Diego Sanchez, renown chef in NYC. “Diego is very talented and passionate about Peruvian Culinary Arts, his experience in top-level restaurants with internationally renowned chefs has enriched the projection of his kitchen, in which pervades his well-cultivated Peruvian roots,” Mrs. Diaz added.
- Participants include returning festival fan favorites from Peru: Chefs Juan Talledo, Magaly Silva, Juana Cuno, Javier Olano and “Picantera” Benita Quicaño.
- Tri-State participating food vendors include: The Inkan Restaurant of Garden City, Mixtura de Wong, Sazón Peruano de JC, Delicioso Pizza Grill of New Jersey, Dolce Amore Sweets of Virginia among others.
- New participants to taste from: Entre Las Redes, Ku.Mar Cevichería, La Choza de La Anaconda and Puerto Acuario.
Live cooking demos will take place inside the Dome Theatre from 2:30-6pm, on both days by Chefs: José Luis Chavez of Mission Ceviche, Miguel Aguilar of Surfish Bistro, Ezequiel Valencia of The Inkan Grill and Ingrid Pereyra, former Masterchef Latino participant, Juan Carlos Lopez Master Chef from Peru and Diego Sanchez SUMAQ 2018 Chef of the Year. In addition to the exquisite food, attendees will also enjoy musical performances, Peruvian folk dancing, artisan craft vendors, raffles, a chance to win a round trip flight to Peru via Copa Airlines and this years newest attraction Peruvian Paso Horse Dance from Virginia.
