Boys Soccer Playoffs – Garden City Defeats Bethpage
The Garden City boys move on to the semi-finals with a well deserved 4-0 victory over Bethpage.
On a blustery Fall day, wait a minute it's April, the top seeded Garden City boys took to the pitch one day after securing a 3-0 win over Long Beach to open the playoffs to face number 8 seed Bethpage.
The game opened up with both teams getting a feel for each other, as well as the weather. At game time the rain subsided but the winds began to pick up. But no matter how strong the wind, the ball control style that coach Paul Cutter has the Garden City boys playing doesn't appear affected and they were able to work the ball around the field quite well. However they just couldn't break through a tough Bethpage defense for a clear shot at the goal.
That changed in the thirtieth minute of the half as Tommy Poz was able to drive a shot from the right side as he entered the box and it eluded a diving Nick Pepe, the Bethpage keeper. Poz put Garden City up 1-0 with 9:59 left in the first half.

Coming out in the second half, the Trojans continued to dominate the time of possession and broke the game open with two Nick Prime goals as well as one from John Scarlata.
All that remained was ensuring that Sammy Myers and his stout defense could secure yet another clean sheet. As the final whistle sounded Garden City and Myers claimed their tenth shutout and twelfth victory of the season, remaining undefeated on the year.
