Car Chase Runs From Garden City To Franklin Square: Police

GARDEN CITY, NY — The Garden City Police Department reported the following incidents for the week ending May 18.
May 12
- Officers investigated an assault where a man punched another man who was walking on the sidewalk, bruising his face. The attacker fled in a dark colored car.
- Police, firefighters and the building department responded to a Pell Terrace home where a vehicle accidentally crashed into the garage.
- A driver driving a truck on 7th Street was charged with possession of a fraudulent license plate, unregistered vehicle, uninsured vehicle and multiple equipment violations.
- Officers investigated a report of a vehicle leaving the scene after colliding with another vehicle on Stewart Avenue.
May 13

- An officer conducting traffic enforcement on New Hyde Park Road observed a vehicle traveling southbound at a high rate of speed. When the officer activated his lights and sirens to stop the vehicle, it continued to proceed south in a reckless manner, committing numerous aggressive driving violations. The driver, a 22-year-old man, was stopped in Franklin Square and arrested for unlawful fleeing from a police officer, reckless driving, suspended license, excessive speed, and other moving violations.
- A man stole multiple products from CVS and fled the store on Franklin Avenue.
- A Commercial Avenue business received a bill via email from what appeared to be a company they normally conduct business with. They transferred the payment to the listed link on the email and later determined it was a scam.
May 14
- A person’s identity was reported stolen and used to file an unauthorized tax return.
- Officers investigated a report of a vehicle leaving the scene after striking and damaging village property on 11th Street. On May 17, Garden City Detectives arrested and charged the 37-year-old driver for leaving the scene of an accident.
- A person’s identity was stolen and used to open a fraudulent insurance policy.
- Officers responded to Cherry Valley Avenue where a truck struck the overpass. The fire department assisted with a fluid spill clean up. The driver was charged with disregarding bridge clearance signs and uninspected vehicle.
- Officers investigated reports of youths egging homes on Whitehall Boulevard and Somerset Avenue.
May 15

- A man wearing a hooded sweatshirt was seen on surveillance cameras walking on the property of a Cathedral Avenue residence at 2:55 a.m.
May 16
- A package was reported stolen from the porch of a Wyatt Road residence.
May 17
- Officers responded to 7th Street for a report of a man stealing a pocketbook from an outdoor dining area. Officers searched the area and apprehended the 18-year-old on 5th Street. He was charged with larceny.
- A driver said he was victimized in a road rage incident on Franklin Avenue when another man exited his vehicle and punched the victim’s vehicle, resulting in two large dents.
May 18
- Garden City detectives arrested a 19-year-old man for forcing open a door to an Adelphi University building on April 25 and stealing food from inside. Two co-defendants were previously arrested for this offense. Adelphi Public Safety assisted with the investigation.
- Someone used another person’s identity to open unauthorized credit card and bank accounts.
- Someone rummaged through a vehicle parked in a Brixton Road driveway. No items appear missing at this time.
