GARDEN CITY, NY — The Garden City Police Department reported the following incidents for the week ending June 29.

June 23

  • A vehicle traveling northbound on Cherry Valley Avenue struck the train overpass. The driver was charged with disregarding bridge clearance signs.
  • A driver was charged with driving on Cathedral Avenue with a suspended license and excessive speed.

  • Garden City detectives arrested a 41-year-old man for the theft of assorted property from two homes where he was working as a contractor. He was charged with two counts of grand larceny.

June 25

  • Police and firefighters responded to a fire alarm at a 7th Street bank. Firefighters determined all was in order.
  • A driver was charged with driving on Cathedral Avenue with a suspended license and excessive speed.
  • A driver was charged with driving on Nassau Boulevard with a suspended license.
  • A driver was charged with driving on Meadow Street while unlicensed and passing a Stop sign.
  • A driver was charged with driving on Clinton Road with multiple driver license suspensions.

  • Police and firefighters responded to Stewart Avenue for a fallen power line. The wire appeared to be a utility line and was safeguarded by firefighters.
  • Officers responded to Cathedral Avenue for a report of fireworks. Upon investigation, the originating location of the fireworks appeared to be in Hempstead or West Hempstead.
  • Officers and NYU were assigned traffic and safety details for the high school graduation ceremony.

June 27

  • Someone damaged a window to a vehicle parked at the Residence Inn.
  • As a result of a traffic stop on Cathedral Avenue, officers arrested a 34-year-old man for a NY State Corrections warrant for absconding from a work release program related to a previous drug charge conviction. He was also charged with driving with a suspended license, unregistered vehicle, and missing front plate.
  • A driver was charged with driving on Cathedral Avenue and 3rd Street with a suspended license and a license plate violation.

June 28

  • Tools and construction equipment were reported stolen from a work van parked in Garden City Plaza.
  • A driver was charged with driving on Washington Avenue while unlicensed, passing a red light, and uninsured operation.
  • A driver was charged with driving on New Hyde Park Road with defective headlights and operating a vehicle in violation of license restrictions.
  • A driver was charged with driving on Cathedral Avenue with fraudulent license plates, a loud exhaust system, and unregistered vehicle.
  • A driver on Old Country Road was charged with displaying fraudulent license plates and unregistered vehicle.

June 29

  • Garden City detectives arrested a 32-year-old man for leaving the scene of an accident that occurred in Parking Field 8 on May 24.
  • Officers responded to multiple traffic light outages on Clinton Road, New Hyde Park Road and Washington Avenue.
