Duo Arrested Trying To Break Into LI Elementary School: Police

Police say the two previously broke into a high school and stole musical instruments.

CARLE PLACE, NY — Two men were arrested early Monday morning after they were caught trying to break into Rushmore Elementary School, Nassau County police said.

According to police, officers responded to the school at 3:15 a.m. after an alarm was activated. The officers began walking through the building and canvassing the outside. Police say they saw two men on the room of the building. When they jumped down, police arrested Gem Hattat, 27, of Willow Lane, Lindenhurst, and Jarrett Boyarsky, 27, of 5th Avenue, Westbury.

  • On June 4, they both broke into Carle Place High School and stole musical instruments. A smartboard and laptop were also damaged.
  • On June 10, Boyarsky broke into Carle Place High School again and stole musical instruments.
  • On June 18, Hattat broke into Island Power Sports on Sunrise Highway in Massapequa, but did not take anything.

Hattat is charged with third-degree burglary and three counts of attempted third-degree burglary. Boyarsky is charged with two counts of third-degree burglary and two counts of attempted third-degree burglary. They are both scheduled to be arraigned later today.
