Fire Rips Through Nassau Apartment Building

Hempstead, NY — Flames pour from a six-story apartment building on Front Street in Hempstead Tuesday afternoon. Dark smoke could be seen billowing into the air. The fire appeared to start on the fifth floor of the complex.

Firefighters were able to get the blaze under control a short time later.

There is no word on injuries to residents or damage to the building.

Attempts to reach the Hempstead fire chief were unsuccessful.
