Four Things You Should Know Today: Thanksgiving Edition
Turkey Trot road closures, sanitation collections and more.

Thanksgiving is upon us. Here are four things you should know today, Thursday, Nov. 28:
1. Village Offices Closed: Village offices are closed today in observance of Thanksgiving Day. Correspondence for the village may be placed in the “Letter” drop slot at the front door.
2. No Sanitation Collection: There is no garbage or recycling pickup today. Those scheduled for recycling are asked to put their recyclables out on Thursday, Dec. 5. Rubbish collection for the entire village took place Wednesday. Garbage collection for the Thanksgiving week is as follows:

- Western Half: Monday and Friday
- Eastern Half: Tuesday and Saturday
3. Turkey Trot: The Turkey Trot Race Committee of Garden City, Inc., is conducting its 36th annual Turkey Trot this morning. There's still time to register between 8 and 9:15 a.m. The race will form at St. Paul’s with the Challenger Division race beginning at 8:30 a.m., the 1.4-mile fun run beginning at 9:15 a.m. and the 5-mile Turkey Trot scheduled for 10 a.m. Click here for more information.
4. Turkey Trot Road Closures: The Garden City Police Department advises that the annual Garden City Turkey Trot, Challenge Run and Fun Run is causing numerous road closures throughout the village this morning. Closures begin at 8 a.m. and continue to approximately noon. For the safety of the race participants as well as the spectators, all streets within the race route will be closed to vehicular traffic.
