Garden City Resident James Krupa, 49

Those who knew Jay will remember him for his quick wit, sense of humor and courageous character.

James “Jay” Krupa, 49, passed away Oct. 23.

He was the beloved husband to Alice and loving Daddy to Gabrielle, Bryce, Rebecca and Keira.

Jay was the son of Pat and the late John Krupa, brother to John (Wendy) and Danny (Caryn) and uncle to many nieces and nephews.

Jay graduated from Boston University with an engineering degree and owned and operated his own business, Progressive Telecom.

Jay was active in the community, dedicating 20 years of service to the New Hyde Park Fire Department, including acting as treasurer. He also was involved as a Little League coach and in the Police Activity League (PAL).

In his spare time Jay often could be found cheering on the sidelines of his children’s soccer, lacrosse, football and basketball games. He also enjoyed the beach and was a sports enthusiast who cheered on the Islanders, Yankees, Giants and Knicks.

Those who knew Jay will remember him for his quick wit, sense of humor and courageous character.

Visitation will be at the New Hyde Park Funeral Home Saturday and Sunday, 2-4:30 p.m. and 7-9:30 p.m. The funeral home is located at 506 Lakeville Road in New Hyde Park. A funeral Mass will be held Monday, Oct. 28, at St. Anne's Church in Garden City at 10 a.m.; interment will follow at Holy Rood Cemetery.

Jay requested that any donations in his memory be made to a college fund for his four children (through checks made payable to “NY 529 College Savings Program Direct Plan” delivered to Jay’s wife, Alice, at 37 Brompton Road, Garden City, NY 11530 or to the Gladiator Fund, P.O. Box 2025, Hillside Manor Station, Hillside Avenue, New Hyde Park, NY 11040.
