Garden City's Irene Psaki Dies at 87
Long-time Roxbury Road resident was grandmother of 24, great-grandmother to 11.

Long-time Garden City resident and Adelphi graduate Irene Psaki died this week just days shy of her 88th birthday.
Psaki, who lived on Roxbury Road in the village for most of her life, was described as a "beloved wife to the late Edwin James Sweeney ... and mother to Marianne, James (Susan), Kim Ilowit (Gordon), Timothy (Ann), Michael (Cindy), Brian, Dennis (Linda), and Robert," in an obituary published Monday in Newsday.
Psaki was born on June 29, 1924 in Forest Hills to parents Dr. Constantine and Frances Psaki. She was cherished by her children, her 24 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren, and was a loving sister to Beatrice MacDonald and Connie Ward, and her now deceased siblings Raoul, Jerry and Mary Frances Mahler.Â

Visitation will be Wednesday 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. at Fairchild Sons Funeral Home, (1201 Franklin Ave., Garden City). A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Thursday at 10 a.m. at St. Anne's R.C. Church in Garden City. Interment will follow at Calverton National Cemetery, Calverton.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the White Oaks Nursing Home in honor of Irene.Â
