Garden City Wings Hockey
The Wings came up with a big win on Friday night to keep their playoff hopes alive with a 3-2 OT win over Friends Academy.
The Garden City Wings came into last nights game knowing that they needed to win to stay alive for the playoffs. Well it wasn't easy as it took them until overtime to get the victory over Friends Academy thanks to Connor Holfester’s goal a little over a minute and a half of the five minute OT period. Having assisted on the first two goals for Garden City, Connor was able to net his 14th goal of the season, and probably his most satisfying. The goal kept the Wings playoff hopes alive.
Garden City fought back twice from a goal down to get into a position for the overtime winner. In the second period, about 6 minutes after going down 1-0, Ryan Michel buried the shot off of a feed from Holfester. Then after going down 2-1 early in the third period, Holfester and Michel worked the puck to Luca Bevil for his third goal of the season to tie up the game. The remainder of the third period played out as a tight battle with each team having chances. For GC, goalie Anthony Remick came up big with several key saves.
The Wings take on Wantagh/Seaford/Plainview on Sunday evening with the goal of keeping their playoff chances alive.
