Hempstead Town Cancels Sanitation, Senior Services For Tuesday

With more snow expected overnight, the town is preemptively canceling programs and services.

HEMPSTEAD TOWN, NY — Due to the severe storm, the Town of Hempstead is extending its service changes into Tuesday.

The Town of Hempstead got hit hard by the storm, with forecasts of more than a foot of snow for much of the township, as well as potential coastal flooding. Crews are working to keep the town's 1,200 miles of roadway clear and safe.

“The combination of heavy snow, high winds and freezing temperatures have caused treacherous conditions and I advise residents to stay off the roads and remain home if possible,” Town Supervisor Don Clavin said. “I thank our CSEA Local 880 workforce for working throughout the duration of the storm to help clear the roads across America’s largest township.”
