Hempstead Town, LI Nets Hosting Free Online Basketball Clinic
Kids in the town can sign up for the free clinic. All they need is a basketball.
HEMPSTEAD TOWN, NY — While many find themselves at home more often than usual due to the coronavirus pandemic, the Town of Hempstead and the Long Island Nets are partnering to provide young Hempstead Towners access to a free, virtual basketball clinic. The clinic will take place via Zoom on Jan. 30 from 12:15 to 1:15 p.m., and will provide young athletes with the opportunity to learn and practice basketball fundamentals from the comfort and safety of their homes.
“I am incredibly excited the Town of Hempstead is joining with the Long Island Nets to transform this key facet of the township’s recreation program to an at-home format,” said Town Supervisor Donald Clavin. “Providing our younger residents the opportunity to stay active this winter while working on their athletic ability by improving key basketball skills in a safe and COVID-compliant manner is a great thing.”
The virtual session will be led by Long Island Nets Head Clinician Kelly Dempsey and HSS Sports Safety-trained clinicians. The free program is open to children ages 6-13 who are interested in learning tips and tricks to improve their skills at home without a basketball hoop.
