GARDEN CITY, NY — The Garden City Police Department reported the following incidents for the week ending May 25.

May 19

  • A car traveling north on Rockaway Avenue was struck by a golf ball from the adjacent golf course, shattering the passenger-side window which resulted in a passenger suffering a minor cut to their arm.
  • A police dispatcher received numerous threatening phone calls. The investigation is ongoing.

  • The Garden City police and fire departments, and the Nassau County Police Department Arson Squad responded to the Marine base for a report of a storage room fire.
  • A driver was charged with driving on 11th Street with a suspended license and passing a red traffic signal.
  • Police and firefighters responded to 7th Street for a garbage pail fire.
  • A man entered Kings Supermarket and stole several bags of frozen shrimp.

May 21

  • Police investigated a report of a person’s identity being used to open a fraudulent bank account.
  • Police investigated a report of a victim’s identity being used to file false unemployment claims.

  • A vehicle was reportedly keyed while parked in Field 7S.
  • Officers investigated a report of a dog bite that occurred on Meadow Street.
  • Police and firefighters responded to a residence for a propane tank leak. Firefighters deemed the area safe.

May 23

  • A woman said there were multiple unauthorized transactions against her bank accounts.
  • A man was seen on surveillance cameras checking car door handles at a 1st Street home.
  • Officers investigated a report of a drone flying over residential properties on Greenridge Avenue, but found nothing.

May 24

  • Officers responded to Cherry Valley Avenue where a truck traveling north struck the train overpass. The 26-year-old driver was charged with disregarding bridge clearance signs and out-of-class operation. There were no reported injuries.
  • A commercial vehicle inspection was conducted on New Hyde Park Road. Ten trucks were inspected, of which three were placed out of service. Police issued 32 tickets for various traffic and safety violations, including an unsecured load violation and three hazardous material violations.
  • Officers conducted a Buckle-Up NY initiative on Nassau Boulevard and Newmarket Road. Officers issued 37 tickets, including 17 seatbelt violations, two excessive speed violations and 18 miscellaneous traffic violations. In addition, two drivers were charged with driving with suspended licenses.
  • Officers are investigating a report of a white vehicle leaving the scene after striking and damaging a vehicle parked in Parking Field 8.
  • A white van reportedly left the scene after striking and damaging another vehicle on Cherry Valley Avenue.
  • As a result of an investigation of a suspicious vehicle that was illegally parked on Franklin Avenue at 7th Street, Officers discovered a subject to be in possession of a defaced loaded 32-caliber handgun with a round in the chamber and a clip holding five live rounds. The subject was also found to be in possession of a forged license plate and a forged Ohio driver’s license. The subject, a 23-year-old man, was arrested for criminal possession of a loaded firearm, criminal possession of a defaced firearm, two counts of possession of a forged instrument, and unlawful altering of a vehicle’s VIN number.

May 25

  • A money clip was reported stolen from a Franklin Avenue gym locker.
  • Police investigated a report of a victim’s identity being used to file false unemployment claims.
