LIRR Construction To Close Garden City Roads

The projects will close roads and change traffic patterns in the village. Find out what's going to be happening.

Construction work by the LIRR on the Nassau Boulevard Bridge and the New Hyde Park Road grade crossing will cause road closures and new traffic patterns in Garden City in the coming weeks.

According to the village, the LIRR is planning to replace the Nassau Boulevard Bridge over the weekend of Oct. 4 through 6.

In order to complete the work, the LIRR will be shutting down a section of Nassau Boulevard and diverting traffic. From Sept. 30 through Oct. 8, Nassau Boulevard will be closed between Atlantic Avenue and Main/Merillon Avenue to both pedestrian and vehicle traffic.

Traffic near the intersection of New Hyde Park Road and Clinch Avenue will be changed. A temporary barrier will prevent motorists traveling southbound on New Hyde Park Road from turning left onto Clinch Avenue. In addition, a temporary bypass road will be built before major construction begins in order to avoid completely closing New Hyde Park Road.
