Long Island Children's Museum Announces New Sonic Exhibit
Kids can learn how sound and hearing works through interactive features like the Scream Chamber and more.

Get ready to see, feel and, of course, hear how sound works at the newest traveling exhibit at the Long Island Children's Musuem: Sonic Sensation.
The new exhibit opens on Jan. 26 and will run through May 5, and will give kids a unique, interactive opportunity to learn how sound hearing works.
“Sound is the earliest way that children gather information and is vital to any full sensory

experience,” said Aimee Terzulli, LICM’s director of education and visitor experience.
“Sonic Sensation teaches visitors the ‘hows and whys’ of sound and encourages us all to
appreciate the sounds around us.”
The exhibit will allow families to test their hearing, experiment with pitch, create a movie soundtrack and enter the Scream Chamber. In total, there are 12 components to the exhibit that demonstrate how sound and hearing works though interactive features.

Sonic Sensation presents a fun and informative opportunity to explore sound in our environment. Learn about the anatomy and physics of how we hear and find out about decibels, amplitude, frequency, pitch and sound waves. As children explore the gallery, they will have a chance to measure the frequency of sounds and match mystery sounds and try to find hidden “animals” in kitchen cupboards by listening. They can also take fun selfies in the "Ear This!" section to see how they would look with the ears of an elephant, rabbit, bat and more.
LICM has also planned complementary workshops to expand upon the themes of the exhibit. Upcoming programs include "What Do We Ear?" on Jan. 26 and 27 from 1 to 3 p.m., and "Sound Tubes" on Feb. 18 and 22 from 1 to 3 p.m.
The Long Island Children's Museum is located at 11 Davis Ave. in Garden City, and is open Tuesday through Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Admission is $14 for adults and kids, $13 for seniors and free for museum members and children under 1.
