Man With 34 License Suspensions Arrested: Garden City Police

GARDEN CITY, NY — The Garden City Police Department reported the following incidents for the week ending May 4.

April 28

  • Garden City detectives arrested a 40-year-old man for a March 10 incident on County Seat Drive where he damaged a vehicle while attaching a GPS tracking device to it. He was charged with criminal tampering and criminal mischief.

  • Officers investigated a report on Colvin Drive where a man entered the back yard of a home and attempted to open a vehicle. Two vehicles were also reportedly entered on Hathaway Drive. There is no reported loss.
  • Police and firefighters responded to a residence for a fire call. It was determined the cause was burnt food.
  • A driver was charged with driving on Washington Avenue with a suspended license and talking on a cell phone.

April 30

  • As a result of an investigation on Clinton Road and Brook Street, officers arrested a 40-year-old man for driving with 34 suspensions, excessive speed, improper plates, unregistered vehicle, and uninsured operation.
  • Officers responded to traffic light malfunctions on Nassau Boulevard due to a local power outage.
  • An officer found a confused elderly man sitting in a vehicle on Rockaway Avenue. It was determined the man was reported missing by Suffolk County police. He was transported to a local hospital for treatment. His family and Suffolk police were notified.

May 1

  • Officers were assigned traffic and safety details for a rally and march from Franklin Avenue to Supreme Court Drive.

May 2

  • As a result of an investigation on Franklin Avenue, officers arrested a 45-year-old man for DWI and multiple lane usage violations.
  • A bicycle was reported stolen from a 3rd Street shed. Another bicycle was reported stolen from a 5th Street garage.
  • Money was reported stolen from a vehicle parked on 5th Street.
  • A purse was reported stolen from a vehicle parked on Meadbrook Road.

May 3

  • Officers investigated a report of a man who forcibly opened the doors to an Adelphi University building and removed several food items.
  • Police received a report of the theft of crypto coin from a person’s account.
  • Officers investigated a crash on Franklin Avenue where a vehicle traveling southbound struck a vehicle at Stewart Avenue, continued past 7th Street and struck multiple trees, streetlights and a LIRR light stanchion before overturning in the vicinity of 6th Street. Firefighters and Nassau County Police Department Emergency Services assisted Garden City police in the extrication of the female driver, who was trapped inside. The driver, who suffered an apparent medical episode before the crash, was transported to a local hospital with multiple injuries. A bystander struck by debris was also transported to a local hospital for head injuries. Police ordered all train service stopped on the Hempstead Line due to damage to the train tracks and the light stanchion. In addition, a vehicle traveling northbound on Franklin Avenue and a nearby office building were damaged by crash debris.

May 4

  • Officers arrested a 42-year-old man at People’s Bank for opening two fraudulent credit card accounts with $25,000 limits after producing forged identification, bank and business documents. He was charged with seven counts of possession of forged instruments, two counts of grand larceny, and two counts of identity theft.
  • Officers responded to a report of a man fleeing CVS after stealing several items. Officers apprehended the 64-year-old man on Franklin Avenue and charged him with petty larceny as well as an open Nassau County warrant for grand larceny.
