Man Stole 2 Cars From Garden City Gas Station: Police

GARDEN CITY, NY — The Garden City Police Department reported the following incidents for the week ending April 27.

April 21

  • A 52-year-old man was arrested for driving on Cathedral Avenue with a DWI-related suspended license, talking on a cell phone and not wearing a seatbelt.
  • Officers responded to a railroad gate malfunction at the Hilton Avenue crossing.
  • Officers investigated a report of a food delivery person suffering a minor injury after being bitten by a dog on 2nd Street.

April 22

  • Officers responded to a railroad gate malfunction at the Nassau Boulevard crossing.
  • A truck inspection was conducted on New Hyde Park Road. Ten vehicles were inspected, of which seven were placed out of service. Forty-five tickets were issued for various traffic and safety violations.

April 23

  • Firefighters and police officers responded to two reports of natural gas leaks. Firefighters determined the gas levels were safe.

April 24

  • The police department participated in the DEA National Drug Take Back Day event, resulting in the collection of 99 pounds of unwanted, unused and expired medications. Adelphi University Public Safety also participated in the event and collected 64 pounds of medications.

April 25

  • A resident was a victim of identity theft after clicking on a link from an email that appeared to be legitimate, however, it was later determined to be a scam.
  • A resident reports two unauthorized charges against his credit card account.

April 26

  • Police and firefighters responded to County Seat Drive for burning power lines. Firefighters determined the cause to be a sparking fuse. The affected area was safeguarded until PSEG workers arrived.
  • Garden City detectives are investigating a report of three men entering an Adelphi University building overnight and removing multiple assorted food and drink items.
  • Officers responded to Cherry Valley Avenue where a truck struck the overpass. No injuries were reported. The driver was charged with disobeying bridge clearance signs.
  • A person’s identity was used to purchase an unauthorized insurance policy. Another person’s identity was used to open an unauthorized credit card account.
  • The operator of a truck traveling north on Clinton Road at St. James Street South was charged with possession of a forged registration, unregistered vehicle, improper plates, uninsured operation and multiple equipment violations.

April 27

  • Upon receiving a missing person notification from the Nassau County Police Department, Garden City Officers located the person on Ring Road.
  • Officers responded to a New Hyde Park Road service station where a 32-year-old man stole a vehicle from the lot and as he attempted to leave, struck another vehicle. Upon investigation, Garden City detectives determined the ma stole credit cards from another car in the lot earlier in the day and used one of the cards to make a purchase in a nearby store. It was also determined the man stole another vehicle from the same lot on Nov. 7. He was charged with six counts of grand larceny, criminal mischief, identity theft, and unauthorized use of an auto.
  • Police and firefighters responded to a residential carbon monoxide alarm on Transverse Road. It was determined the alarm activation was apparently due to a local power outage.
  • As a result of a traffic investigation on Clinton Road and Transverse Road, an operator of a truck was charged with driving with a suspended license as well as numerous safety and equipment violations.
