GARDEN CITY, NY — The Garden City Police Department reported the following incidents for the week ending April 13.
April 7
- A Massapequa carting truck was cited for multiple excessive weight violations on Old Country Road.
- Dents and chips were found on a vehicle parked in Parking Field 5.
- Officers were assigned to traffic and safety details for a protest on 7th Street.
- A woman said her identity was stolen and used to apply for a business loan and unemployment benefits.
- A driver was charged with driving on Nassau Boulevard at Stratford Avenue with a suspended license, uninsured vehicle and excessive speed. Another driver was charged with driving on Clinton Road at Garden Street with a suspended license, improper license plates, unregistered vehicle and equipment violations.
April 8

- Garden City police and firefighters responded to Rockaway Avenue for an odor of gas. Upon investigation, all appeared to be in order.
- Officers investigated a report of a vehicle leaving the scene after crashing into another vehicle on Stewart Avenue.
- A driver was charged with driving on Stewart Avenue at Tullamore Road with a suspended license and excessive speed. Another driver was charged with driving on Franklin Avenue with six license suspensions and excessive speed.
- A joint investigation on 11th Street by the Garden City police and Nassau County Probation Department resulted in the arrest of a 25-year-old man for driving with 21 license suspensions.
April 9
- A Garden City Plaza business reported multiple company checks stolen and cashed.
- Items were reported stolen from a vehicle parked at a 1st Street residence.
- As a result of an investigation on 1st Street at Cathedral Avenue, a truck driver was charged with numerous traffic and safety violations as well as possession of two altered registrations.
April 10

- Officers received a report of a dispute between a 42-year-old Garden City man and two Garden City youths, ages 12 and 14, who were reportedly climbing a tree on Cambridge Avenue. Upon investigation, the adult was arrested for taking one of their bicycles and forcibly taking a cell phone from one of the youths who was videotaping the incident. The adult was charged with robbery, larceny and two counts of endangering the welfare of a minor.
April 11
- Garden City Officers assisted Hempstead police in the investigation of subjects shooting from a vehicle at a Hempstead Police Officer. Upon investigation, the three juvenile occupants were apprehended. The officer was not injured.
- A driver was charged with driving on Old Country Road with a suspended license and excessive speed.
April 12
- An officer patrolling Franklin Avenue discovered a water main break at 15th Street. The Water Department was notified and responded to the scene.
- A drill and assorted tools were reported stolen from a Hamilton Place garage.
- Officers investigated three reports of victims’ identities being stolen and used to file false unemployment claims.
April 13
- Police investigated a report of reward points being stolen from a person’s credit card account.
- Upon investigation, Garden City detectives arrested an employee of an Old Country Road firm for the theft of company checks and attempting to cash them at multiple locations. The employee, a 47-year-old woman, was charged with two counts of attempted grand larceny, identity theft and possession of a forged instrument.
- A driver was charged with driving on Cathedral Avenue at 4th Street with a suspended registration and excessive speed.
- Garden City police and firefighters responded to Adelphi University for a fire alarm. It was determined the alarm was activated by a cooking appliance.
