GARDEN CITY, NY — The Garden City Police Department reported the following incidents for the week ending April 20.

April 14

  • A package was reported stolen from the front stoop of a Chelsea Road residence.
  • A person’s identity was used to file false unemployment claims.
  • A driver on Cherry Valley Avenue and another driver on Cathedral Avenue were both charged with driving with suspended registrations.
  • A driver was charged with driving on Rockaway Avenue with a suspended license and excessive speed in a school zone.

April 15

  • The police department received a report of someone filing false unemployment claims using another person’s identity.
  • A person called a number thought to be Amazon customer service and was advised to download an app, which triggered numerous unsolicited calls. Amazon is investigating the issue.

April 16

  • Lawn signs were reported stolen from a 1st Street residence.
  • Officers investigated three reports of identities being stolen and used to file false unemployment claims.
  • A driver was charged with driving on Cambridge Avenue with fraudulent registration documents, unregistered vehicle and switched license plates.
  • Police and firefighters responded to a Franklin Avenue restaurant for a fire alarm. Upon investigation, the alarm was activated by excessive oven smoke.

April 17

  • Upon investigation, officers arrested a 19-year-old woman for violating a court order to stay away from another person. She was charged with criminal contempt.
  • Officers investigated a two-vehicle crash on Stewart Avenue where one of the vehicles, a red sedan, reportedly left the scene without exchanging information.
  • A driver was charged with driving on Cambridge Avenue with a suspended license and passing a stop sign.

April 18

  • Officers investigated a report of criminal mischief to a vehicle parked on Wickham Road.
  • A vehicle parked at a 3rd Street home was reportedly entered. No items were taken from the vehicle.

April 19

  • The passenger window to a vehicle parked in a private Franklin Avenue lot was found damaged.
  • A person’s identity was used to open an unauthorized insurance policy. Another person’s identity was used to open unauthorized credit card accounts.
  • A vehicle was reportedly entered on Poplar Street. No items were taken from the vehicle.

April 20

  • Park passes were reported stolen from a vehicle parked on Westbury Road.
  • A person’s identity was used to open multiple unauthorized insurance policies.
  • Garden City police assisted the Nassau County and Hempstead police in the investigation and arrest of a 31-year-old man who shot three people, killing one, at the Stop & Shop Store on Cherry Valley Avenue in West Hempstead.
