NASSAU COUNTY, NY — Nassau's pools are going to reopen in July, but for residents only, according to County Executive Laura Curran.

Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced Thursday that local municipalities can reopen pools. Curran made the announcement about Nassau's pools Wednesday.

On July 3, the county will open four of its six pools at Cantiague Park, North Woodmere Park, Wantagh Park and Christopher Morley Park. Curran said the county is waiting for state guidance on how to open the two seaside pools at Nickerson Beach.

Because the pools will likely be operating at reduced capacity, Curran said they would be restricted to county residents only.

Patch recently polled Long Island residents about reopening pools and many seemed eager to get back into the water.

Curran also announced that the Nassau County Civil Service Commission flagged an attempt at large-scale fraud by people using the information of Nassau County employees to try to get unemployment benefits. The fraudsters were trying to use the information of Nassau employees, who were still working and therefor not entitled to benefits, to file for unemployment.

The Nassau County Police Department is now investigating, Curran said.
