Police ID 2 Victims In Fatal Garden City House Fire

Police are still working to identify the third victim. One was an 18-year-old senior at Garden City High School.

GARDEN CITY, NY — Nassau County police have identified two of the three people who died in a tragic house fire Thursday morning.

Gail Madigan, 60, and Molly Madigan, 18, both died in the early morning fire. Police are still working to identify the third victim, a 62-year-old man. Molly was a senior at Garden City High School and had just been accepted to New York University next fall, NBC 4 reported.

The fire broke out at the home on Washington Avenue just after 5:30 a.m. Garden City firefighters were battling a massive fire in Westbury at the time and left to respond to the home, which was engulfed in flames.

Garden City police were first on the scene and couldn't get into the home. A dozen other fire departments responded to the scene.

One Garden City police officer was hospitalized for smoke inhalation, and three firefighters had minor injuries and were treated at the scene.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation by the Nassau County Police Department's Arson/Bomb Squad and the Nassau County fire marshal.
