Possible Overdose Victim Found Near Parking Lot: GC Police

GARDEN CITY, NY — The Garden City Police Department reported the following incidents for the week ending May 11.

May 5

  • As a result of a traffic investigation on Franklin Avenue, officers arrested a 29-year-old man for DWI, passing a red traffic light and unlicensed operation.
  • Police and firefighters responded to a Franklin Avenue building for a Carbon Monoxide alarm. The fire department determined all levels were in order.
  • Upon investigation of a driver slumped inside his vehicle on Nassau Boulevard, officers arrested a 28-year-old man for driving while impaired by drugs and criminal possession of heroin.

  • Multiple unauthorized purchases were made against a resident’s checking account. Multiple unauthorized purchases were made against another person’s cellphone account.
  • Officers responded to Kenwood Road for a fallen tree blocking the street.
  • A wallet was reported stolen from a vehicle parked on Meadbrook Road.

May 7

  • A 24-year-old was found deceased in the grassy area east of Parking Field 9E. The initial investigation is indicating a possible drug overdose.
  • A driver was charged with driving on Hilton Avenue with a suspended registration.
  • Two suspicious backpacks were found in the vicinity of the Herricks Road sump. Upon investigation, it was determined the backpacks were in order and belonged to local students.
  • Officers investigated a report of a school bus leaving the scene after colliding with a NICE Bus on Clinton Road.
  • Firefighters responded to two houses for fire alarms. In both cases, the alarms were caused by burnt food.

  • Items were removed from a car parked in a Pell Terrace driveway.
  • An unauthorized bank account was opened using the personal information of another person.
  • Youths were observed on surveillance cameras throwing eggs at a Brompton Road residence.

May 9

  • Officers investigated a report of a vehicle leaving the scene after colliding another vehicle on 7th Street.

May 10

  • Firefighters assisted with the removal of a man stuck in an elevator on West Street.
  • Garden City firefighters assisted the Mineola Fire Department with a building fire on Mineola Boulevard.
  • Items were reported stolen from a vehicle parked on Wellington Road and from another vehicle parked on Roxbury Road.

May 11

  • On May 10, Garden City Detectives arrested a 20-year-old male for forcibly entering an Adelphi University building on April 25 and May 1, where various food items were stolen. He was charged with two counts of burglary. On May 11, the detectives arrested a second person, a 21-year-old man, for his participation in the April 25 burglary at Adelphi University. He was charged with burglary. Adelphi Public Safety officers assisted with the investigation of both burglaries.
