A Triumphant Homecoming For Garden City High School
The Trojans secured a victory over South Side to cap off the weekend of festivities in the district.
GARDEN CITY, NY — Students, staff members and families throughout the Garden City School District let their enthusiasm shine during the high school’s homecoming weekend. Festivities commenced with a pep rally for juniors and seniors on the afternoon of April 16 and continued the next day with a victorious football game and halftime show.
The pep rally featured performances by the jazz band, marching band, cheerleaders and kickline, along with team introductions and skits. Jeffy Samuel and Julie Murphy were crowned Homecoming King and Queen and shared the spotlight with their fellow homecoming court members: Sarah Fetherston, Elizabeth (Lizanne) Griffith, Jessica Poz, Brendan Burke, CJ Casano and Tim O’Hanlon. Earlier in the day, some seniors visited the primary and elementary schools and led mini pep rallies outside.
The football game kicked off at 2 p.m. on April 17 and pitted the Trojans against South Side High School in a match that ended in a 34-0 win for Garden City. The marching band, color guard, kickline and cheerleaders presented a halftime show that kept the field and bleachers filled with energy, and many tributes were made to the senior class throughout the afternoon. Both the pep rally and game were live streamed for all to enjoy virtually.

Leading up to these events, each of the district’s school buildings held spirit week activities. Students and staff members were invited to dress based on different themes that were featured each day.
“School spirit was at its best and the community was so proud to celebrate our students,” said Superintendent of Schools Dr. Kusum Sinha. “This school year has been different, but we are doing continuing the traditions that honor the class of 2021 and demonstrate our unity as a district in as many ways as possible. We are very happy to have been able to provide this Homecoming experience.”
