East Village Thai Spot Opening Up Red Hook Outpost

Somtum Der plans to take over a storefront at 380 Van Brunt St. next month, Eater New York reported.

RED HOOK, NY — A well-reviewed East Village Thai eatery plans to open up a Brooklyn on Van Brunt Street in Red Hook next month, Eater New York first reported.

Somtum Der will open up a 40-seat Brooklyn location of the Isan-style Thai restaurant at 380 Van Brunt St. sometime in late June or early July, a spokeswoman for the restaurant said.

Somtum Der first opened in Bangkok in 2012 aiming to bring Isan Thai food — known for its spiciness — to the country, according to Serious Eats. The eatery then opened a New York City location in the East Village in 2013, where it received one-star in the New York Times and was awarded a Michelin Bib Gourmand this year.
