Gowanus Artists: Make Your Needs and Concerns Heard
Arts Gowanus is still running an online survey for artists who work, or have worked, in Gowanus.
GOWANUS, BROOKLYN — Gowanus artists still have a chance to weigh in on how they think the neighborhood should develop. An online survey created by local group Arts Gowanus is still accepting feedback, though the organization says it will bring the survey to a close early this month.
"As you know, Gowanus is changing rapidly," Arts Gowanus explains on the survey's website. "Artists are being displaced and the future feels uncertain. At Arts Gowanus, we are your advocates and want to break the typical cycle of artists being pushed out of our neighborhoods (in Gowanus and beyond)."
The survey, the group says, is designed to let artists record their needs and concerns.

"We are interested in the opinions of all artists who have ever had a studio in the Greater Gowanus area (or participated in Gowanus Open Studios)," the site reads. All responses will be kept confidential, Arts Gowanus says, adding that the survey takes about 10 minutes to complete. Plus, anyone who fills it out will be entered into a raffle for a $100 gift certificate to supply store Artist & Craftsmen.
You can take the survey online now.

Last November, new renderings were released of "Roulston House," the 270,000 square foot office and retail complex planned for 94 9th St., 98 9th St. and 75 10th St. The project has already led to the eviction of numerous Gowanus artists who used to rent work space at the site.
And in December, Gowanus' Trestle Art Space announced it would move its major operations to Sunset Park by the end of January, shuttering its 168 7th St. location in the process.
