Gowanus Brewery Launching 'Gender Neutral' Beer For NYC Pride

It's the newest flavor from Threes Brewing.

GOWANUS, BROOKLYN — A brewery in Gowanus is debuting a new beer flavor later this month called Gender Neutral, to celebrate NYC Pride.

Threes Brewing, on Douglass Street near Fourth Avenue, will launch the new beer at a "Human Rights Are Gender Neutral" party on Thursday, June 22, right before the weekend of the NYC Pride Parade.

"As we grow and are starting to get some attention, we think it’s incumbent upon us to use whatever platform we have to make a difference about issues we care deeply about," Threes Brewing co-founder Joshua Stylman told Patch.

"A lot of those themes broadly center around human rights. More specifically, LGBTQ rights are a topic close to most of the team here. We think it’s ridiculous that in 2017 this is an issue, but apparently it still is."

The party is free to attend and will feature a DJ set from Kandylion.

The Gender Neutral beer itself is described as "a pale lager with lemon zest." A pre-sale of the beer begins next Wednesday, June 14.

"It’ll be a light summer beer, certainly something that will be perfect for the season," Stylman said. "We've wanted to brew something — a lighter style lager — with a citrus zest for a long time. Given the timing of pride week and the start of the summer, it seemed like the perfect opportunity to link these two elements."

Stylman said he isn't sure yet if the flavor will become a permanent fixture in Threes Brewing's lineup, but he hopes to do a similar pride party during pride week going forward.

Part of the proceeds from the party and sales of the beer itself will go to the Human Rights Campaign.

"As a small business we see it on us to tie our own interest with bettering our community and we think this is a step in the right direction," Stylman said.
