'High Performance' Manufacturing Hub Planned for Carroll Street

The space could house low-impact manufacturers, such as those making jewelry, ceramics, or electrical fixtures, a spokesman said.

GOWANUS, BROOKLYN — A new eight-story, 30,000-square-foot home for "high performance" manufacturing is being planned for Gowanus, as previously reported by DNAinfo.

The building, to be located at 497 Carroll St., will be adjacent to the Textile Arts Center operated by J. David Sweeney, whose brother Peter filed the plans for the project.

Project spokesman Tom Naklicki told Patch that the goal is to host between 20 and 25 tenants, each occupying between 900 and 3,000 square feet of space.

Naklicki said the building would be geared towards companies that "can limit their impact on adjacent residential areas," such as those making jewelry, ceramics, film, photography, and electrical fixtures.

The current timeline calls for the doors to open in 2018, but Naklicki said that could change in the future.
