New Cafe Rita Opens On Van Brunt Street In Red Hook
The cafe Rita opened this month by on Van Brunt Street serving up breakfast and lunch by the former head chef of the Court Street Grocers.

RED HOOK, NY — The former head chef of the popular sandwich shop Court Street Grocers opened up a new cafe inside the former Home/Made Van Brunt Street storefront this month.
Rita, owned by Chef Mary Ellen Amato, took over the 239 Van Brunt St. last week serving up Spanish cuisine influenced breakfast and lunch items with plans to expand to an all-day menu in the future, Eater New York reported.
Amato did not respond to a request for comment from Patch for the article.

She previously served as the executive chef for Court Street Grocers but left to open her own 25-seat neighborhood cafe in Red Hook, according to Eater.
The cafe also serves coffee and plans to serve up small plates and wine at night after it gets its liquor license.

Rita takes over the space of the former Home/Made restaurant which operated out of the neighborhood for 11 years until it closed its Red Hook spot in 2017 and moved to the Hudson Valley.
