Red Hook Bar Opposed By Neighbors Is OKed By Community Board For Liquor License

The bar will go in on Beard Street between Van Brunt and Conover streets.

RED HOOK, BROOKLYN — A proposed bar in Red Hook that was opposed by neighbors who didn't want the extra noise on their block was approved by Community Board 6 to get its liquor license on Thursday night.

The space on Beard Street between Van Brunt and Conover streets will serve mostly as a brewery with a small space for a taproom and some food.

The board unanimously voted to support the liquor license for the property with a few stipulations that could help ease residents' concerns.

The bar will only stay open until 11 p.m. from Sunday through Wednesday, midnight Thursday night and 1 a.m. Friday and Saturday.

It also won't have an outdoor space, patrons will be encouraged to be picked up and dropped off around the corner and the front door will stay closed to keep noise down.

Only the hours are enforceable, though.

Neighbors packed a CB6 committee meeting last week to voice their displeasure at the incoming bar. But by the end of it, committee chair Mike Racioppo told Patch, they were grateful for the opportunity to get their voices heard and happy to have some concessions made their way.

"There’s always going to be some community concern," Racioppo told Patch. "It was heard. We worked through it as best we could. I hope that this works out. It’s good to see people involved."
