Trump's Immigration Order Deserves 'Full Repeal' Red Hook And Gowanus Community Board Says
The CB 6 resolution also called for "compassionate and fair immigration policies."
RED HOOK and GOWANUS, BROOKLYN — At its Wednesday meeting, Community Board 6 passed a resolution calling for a "full repeal" of President Donald Trump's recent executive order on immigration. The order has been blocked by multiple federal judges, though the Trump administration is fighting those decisions.
CB 6 represents Park Slope, Gowanus, Red Hook, Carroll Gardens, Columbia Waterfront, Boerum Hill and Cobble Hill.
The resolution, which is addressed to Trump himself, also asks the president "to pursue compassionate and fair immigration policies which refrain from xenophobic rhetoric and place a higher value on the American ideas of freedom and liberty."

"Brooklyn Community Board 6 is made up of neighborhoods that celebrate, reflect and respect all...residents, no matter where they originally called home," the resolution states. It adds that the inscription at the base of the Statue of Liberty, authored in 1883 by Emma Lazarus, proclaims the United States to be "a nation that would serve as a safe harbor for all."
Among the Brooklyn residents temporarily blocked from entering the United States by Trump's order were CUNY graduate student Saira Raifee, who lives in Prospect-Lefferts Gardens, and Interfaith Medical Hospital doctor Kamal Fadlalla. Both were able to return to the U.S. after the order was stayed in court.
