WATCH: Formula E Racing Comes To Red Hook
The fully electric racing cars arrive at the Red Hook Cruise Terminal.
RED HOOK, BROOKLYN — The cars that will be used in this weekend's Formula E race at the Red Hook Cruise Terminal arrived there this afternoon.
The event also featured a ribbon-cutting at the track where the race is being held. The race itself will take place on Saturday and Sunday at the race track at the cruise terminal.
The FIA Formula E Championship is the world’s first fully-electric single-seater racing series and the track features 10 turns that will wind its way around Pier 11. The cars can reach 140 miles per hour in just under three seconds using power that produces zero emissions, according to the city's Economic Development Corporation.

While the race won't take up any road space, it has closed part of the dedicated Greenway bike path along the waterfront.
"We are about to see some of the greenest, most advanced and fastest cars on the plant race through the Brooklyn Cruise Terminal, in the heart of one of New York City’s most iconic industrial neighborhoods," Deputy Mayor Alicia Glen said. "It’s a showcase of innovation, technology, sustainability – and die-hard competition. What could be more New York?"
