Work Begins at 'Red Hoek Point,' Red Hook's Latest Retail and Commercial Development

A spokesman for Thor Equities, which owns the Red Hook property, said it could serve as a home for local retail businesses.

RED HOOK, BROOKLYN — Work is underway at the future site of Red Hoek Point, the 7.7 acre retail and commercial development adjacent to the Erie Basin under construction by Thor Equities.

Crews have started clearing away rubble from the site to make way for construction equipment, Thor spokesman Joshua Greenwald said. The finished project — to be composed of two timber structures containing 795,000 square feet of "creative office space" and 23,000 square feet of retail — is expected to be completed in 2019, though Greenwald said he didn't have a more exact date.

Thor purchased the project's property for $40 million in 2005, as reported by Curbed New York.

The development company is touting each building's 1.8-acre green rooftop, a central open courtyard, on-site parking, a kayak lunching pad, and a bike valet, among other amenities.

Press releases have further noted that "a planned Brooklyn-Queens streetcar will also serve the neighborhood."

Thor is pitching Red Hoek Point as a space for "creative users looking for a unique campus environment." On Wednesday, Greenwald added that the development could also be the home of local businesses.

"I think especially for the retail potion, we're open to whoever is the right tenant for the property," Greenwald said.

The property's leasing, which is currently open, is being handled by CBRE. While specific price ranges aren't yet available, contact information for CBRE's leasing agents is listed on Red Hoek Point's website.
