Bosworth Says She's No Career Politician; DeGiorgio Favors Term Limits

If the issue of term limits is one that might sway your vote this election season in the town supervisor race, then the choices might be pretty cut and dry.

In our weekly question and answer series with the candidates, Legis. Judi Bosworth, D-Great Neck, and GOP North Hempstead Councilwoman Dina DeGiorgio were pressed by Patch to express their ideas regarding and term limits and the definition of a career politician.

Their responses helped show how far apart the women are in their opinion of the term limits issue. And it gave some insight into their ability to answer a tough question directly.

After serving more than 22 years in two elected offices, Bosworth said she does not consider herself a career politician.

"I have a passion for serving the community and a strong track record of commitment to all our residents," said Bosworth to Patch.

DeGiorgio said eight years is enough for anyone serving as town supervisor.

"I believe that the town supervisor’s term should be changed to four years from two, so that she can spend more time working and serving, and less time campaigning and fundraising," said DeGiorgio.

She said she believes the founding fathers would not approve of the current situation at Town Hall.

"I think they’d be appalled to see how much time and money are wasted on petty infighting, and how little of the people’s work actually gets accomplished," said DeGiorgio.
