The rank of Eagle Scout is earned by a Scout who has completed an Eagle Scout Project, has advanced through all previous ranks, has earned a minimum of 21 merit badges, has demonstrated Scout Spirit, and has held leadership positions within their troop.
For his project, Rick contacted the Great Neck Park District with a project to install 61 botanical placards (paid for with funds he raised on his own) on specific trees in Allenwood Park and the Village Green. The Park District happily agreed. Trees were selected for their maximum visibility and uniqueness. The signs exhibit both the common and Latin names for the trees, assisting visitors in identifying tree varieties.
Rick's project took place on Sunday, 1/17 at Allenwood Park and Monday, 1/18 at the Village Green, with GNPD Park Supervisor Will McGirr overseeing the work. The installation of the placards took Rick, and eleven (11) scout volunteers, approximately 2 hours in each park.
