A hazardous weather outlook has now been issued for Long Island as a nor'easter gets set to slam the region with heavy rain and powerful winds this weekend.
Coastal flood watches will be in effect Saturday. Widespread flooding of vulnerable areas near the waterfront and shoreline is possible during the times of high tide Saturday morning into the afternoon, resulting in up to 3 feet of inundation above ground level in low lying, vulnerable areas, the National Weather Service says.
Numerous road closures may be required and vehicles parked in vulnerable areas near the waterfront will likely become flooded.

Breaking waves of 8-12 feet along the ocean shoreline will also result in widespread beach flooding and erosion with minor damage possible to dune structures.
Clouds will increase through the day on Friday, although any rainfall should hold off until Friday night. Rain will continue through the overnight hours, becoming heavy at times by Saturday morning.

In addition to the rain, winds will increase out of the east-northeast, with gusts of 40-50 mph during the day on Saturday.
The rain and wind will diminish Saturday evening as the low moves north of the area. Temperatures will remain below normal Friday and Saturday, with highs in the 50s both days.
