Longtime Great Neck Resident, WWII Vet Dies At Age 98

GREAT NECK, NY — Mort Zimmerman, a longtime Great Neck resident and World War II veteran, died June 11. He was 98.

Born on July 17, 1922, Zimmerman enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Forces at the age of 20 and helped to administer cities the Allies captured in the Second World War, according to Newsday. Once home, he returned to New York and graduated from Baruch College.

Shortly after the war ended, Zimmerman married Annette. The two shared a life together for nearly 70 years, until Annette's death in 2015. They had two children — John and Robert.

Zimmerman is survived by his two sons, as well as five grandchildren, according to his obituary.
