North Hempstead Unveils Student Artwork Honoring Frontline Workers

North Hempstead, NY – North Hempstead Town Supervisor Judi Bosworth, along with the Town Board, unveiled an art display at North Hempstead Beach Park, Michael J. Tully Park, and Martin “Bunky” Reid Park in North Hempstead, honoring the heroic efforts of frontline workers during the COVID-19 pandemic. The North Hempstead Strong: Reflections and Messages of Hope During COVID-19 Virtual Quilt installation will be located at the Town parks through Friday, July 23.

“The extraordinary dedication of our first responders, medical professionals, and essential employees deserves to be recognized, and we were so touched that so many of our wonderful students here in the Town of North Hempstead took the time to write such poignant messages,” said Supervisor Bosworth. “We are eternally grateful for the sacrifices made by all essential workers who risked the health of themselves and their families to keep us safe. The pictures weaved together on these virtual quilts are a beautiful way of saying thank you to our community from our community.”

During the beginning of the year, the Town reached out to students in kindergarten through sixth grade to ask them to participate in the project where they could illustrate thank you messages to essential and frontline workers. Children were provided a quilt patch to complete and to be incorporated and made into a virtual quilt.

In March, the Town also unveiled a commemorative monument at Town Hall expressing North Hempstead’s sincere appreciation and gratitude for frontline workers and all they have done and continue to do.
