Rounds Of Showers, Thunderstorms Likely This Week

This weekend's rain was just the start of an abnormally wet pattern that could cause flooding problems on Long Island into the end of the month.

“A cycle of daily rounds of showers and thunderstorms is likely to repeat on most days this week,” AccuWeather Meteorologist Kyle Elliott says.

The National Weather Service, in a hazardous weather outlook issued for the region, says "A nearly stationary frontal system could produce showers and thunderstorms capable of causing flash flooding through much of the week, but it is still too early to pinpoint exact locations that could be affected."

The full forecast:

Monday- Showers and possibly a thunderstorm before 2pm, then showers likely between 2pm and 4pm, then a chance of showers and thunderstorms after 4pm. Steady temperature around 77. South wind 14 to 17 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90%. New rainfall amounts between a half and three quarters of an inch possible.

Monday Night- A chance of showers and thunderstorms. Mostly cloudy, with a steady temperature around 76. South wind 13 to 15 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%.

Tuesday- A chance of showers, with thunderstorms also possible after 9am. Partly sunny, with a high near 82. South wind 11 to 15 mph, with gusts as high as 26 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%.

Tuesday Night- A 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly after midnight. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 73. South wind 10 to 13 mph.

Wednesday- A 40 percent chance of showers. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 79.

Wednesday Night- Showers likely, mainly after midnight. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 72. Chance of precipitation is 60%.

Thursday- Showers likely. Cloudy, with a high near 79. Chance of precipitation is 60%.

Thursday Night- Showers likely, mainly before midnight. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 71. Chance of precipitation is 60%.

Friday- A 30 percent chance of showers. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 82.

Friday Night- A 30 percent chance of showers. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 72.
