SHA Students Get Inspired to the Rim

Corey the Dribbler Puts on an Exciting Show for Silverstein Hebrew Academy Students

Great Neck, N.Y. – Students from the Silverstein Hebrew Academy in Great Neck recently received a special visit and a captivating show from former Harlem Globetrotter and youth motivational speaker, Corey the Dribbler. Corey is a four-time Guinness world record holder who travels throughout the U.S. inspiring students with the character message R.E.A.D. which stands for Respect, Education, Attitude/Activity and Don’t Bully or Do Drugs. These are the four principles Corey encourages students to abide by through an interactive and powerful basketball show.

“We were fond of the fact that Corey offered an entertaining show that incorporated many of SHA’s core values like good morals, making smart decisions, and working hard in school,” said Chumy Ezagui, SHA Program Director and PTA member. “These are all very important topics to discuss with our students and Corey addressed them in a unique and interactive way.”

The students even had the opportunity to be involved in Corey’s spectacular performance, like getting the chance to try and steal the ball from the “World’s Best Ball Handler!” Corey then spoke to SHA students about the value that reading has added to his life and how it helped lead him to win a spot on the Harlem Globetrotters, the iconic American exhibition basketball team whose team members combine athleticism, skill, theater, and comedy into their style of play.

Students were taught to respect their parents, teachers, and classmates, and that bullying is not to be tolerated under any circumstances. The children were also encouraged by Corey to excel in school while bringing a positive attitude each day as well as staying active and fit while avoiding drugs along the way.
