Silverstein Hebrew Academy Students Package Food for 250 Families

Great Neck, N.Y. — Eighth grade students from the Silverstein Hebrew Academy (SHA) in Great Neck recently had the opportunity to demonstrate their compassion and generosity by spending a day at the Haber House Senior Center in Coney Island through the Metropolitan Council on Jewish Poverty. The students packed and prepared holiday meals for over 250 families for the upcoming Rosh Hashanah holiday.

This visit was organized by Silverstein Hebrew Academy’s Director of Student Life, Rabbi Zevy Geisinsky, as part of SHA’s mission to help students develop personally and academically. “At SHA we aim to teach values concurrently with academics,” said Rabbi Zevy. “The participation of our eighth graders is a reflection of the principles of Chessed instilled throughout our school.”

The Met Council provides comprehensive social services to aid, sustain, and empower more than 225,000 poor and near-poor New Yorkers. SHA Students learned about character education and philanthropy, supported the cause to help feed local families in need.
