Some alarm companies are not listing the Manhasset-Lakeville Dept. as the local response agency, even when it is.

“You’d have to call your fire department to verify [who the correct] responding agency is,” said Kyle Dugger, of the Manhasset-Lakeville Dept. Otherwise, emergency personnel can waste precious seconds phoning the correct agency.

Dugger says even when his Department gets calls from within other nearby fire districts, they do respond, and notify the proper fire department. The problem is mostly prevalent in border areas, he said. But alarm companies have once in a while called Manhasset-Lakeville for emergencies as far away as Massapequa, potentially causing a delay.

“The homeowner has to be responsible to contact their agency to make they have their correct information,” said Dugger.
