This Week: Candidates Night, Veterans Breakfast

October is in full effect. That means our first brush with brisk weather this week as a cold front bringing high winds moves through the region Monday.

Here are a few highlights this week around North Hempstead:

"Thank You To Our Veterans Breakfast": The Town of North Hempstead a free breakfast in recognition of veterans and their service to the nation. The event takes place Wednesday, Oct. 9 at Clinton G. Martin Park from 9-11 a.m. Veterans from all branches of service invited to attend. Call 311 to reserve a seat. 

Comptroller Forum: This is your opportunity to meet the candidates who are vying for the position of Comptroller of Nassau County. Sponsored by the League of Women Voters, the event takes place at Molloy College-Madison Theater, 1000 Hempstead Ave., Rockville Centre, on Oct. 10. More information

At The Landmark: Lou Gramm of Foreigner will perform acoustic versions of "Cold As Ice," "I Want To Know What Love Is," "Hot Blooded" and "Waiting For A Girl Like You" at The Landmark on Main Street Friday, Oct. 11 at 8 p.m. More information

Charity Cup Regatta and Carnival: The 17th Annual Port Washington Yacht Club Charity Cup Regatta, to benefit North Shore Autism Circle, plus BBQ and family carnival takes place Saturday, Oct 12. The event includes petting zoo, pony rides, face painting and sand art. Admission: $100 per family includes lunch, non-alcoholic drinks and BBQ. More information
