WATCH: Port Washington Student Creates PSA Against Drunk Driving

What started as a health class assignment turns into a family affair.

When Andrew Goldberg, a 9th grader at Port Washington’s Schreiber High School, was tasked with completing a quarterly health class project, he consulted with his family at the dinner table.

“We reviewed all of the options,” said Franessa Goldberg, Andrew’s mother.“ “Andrew seemed most interested in creating a public service announcement dealing with the increased number of fatal accidents during the holiday season.”

Andrew’s father, David Goldberg, thought it might be cute to have their younger son Eric be the spokesperson.

“Eric is the outspoken one in our family, and Andrew didn’t resist his little brother being center stage,” David Goldberg said.

Andrew Goldberg and his dad developed an outline based on the class curriculum. A script followed and then stock video and personal pictures were selected. Next, with digital camera and a clip-on microphone, they shot the video of Eric dressed as an elf.

“We loaded the video into Adobe Premier and Andrew did all the rough edits, choosing Eric’s best takes”, said David. “I helped tidy up the video, but it was Andrew’s show.”

The one-minute message warns adults not to drink and drive during the holidays. Eric informs viewers that although their friends and relatives may seem fine, they could very well be intoxicated and shouldn’t get behind the wheel.
