Pedestrian Killed In East Harlem Hit-And-Run, Police Say

Cops arrested the driver after she turned herself in shortly after the crash, police said.

EAST HARLEM, NY — A pedestrian died after being hit by a car which fled the scene on the FDR Drive Thursday, police said.

The driver later turned up at an NYPD precinct saying she had damage to her vehicle and may have hit somebody.

Alesha Henderson, 33, of East Harlem, died after being hit at East 116th Street and the FDR about 5:30 a.m., police said.

Cops found her unresponsive with severe head injuries. She was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

Shortly after, Crystal James, 27, of Upper Manhattan, turned herself in at a police station saying she may have hit a pedestrian with her Nissan sedan, which had damage to the passenger side, police said.

James was arrested and charged with leaving the scene of a crash and failure to exercise due care, according to police.

An investigation by the NYPD's Collision Investigation Squad is ongoing.
