2 Seriously Injured In Hauppauge Collision With Dump Truck

Two passengers in a Chevrolet van were injured when the van was struck by a Mack dump truck on Thursday morning, police say.

HAUPPAUGE, NY — Two people were seriously hurt when a van and dump truck collided in Hauppauge on Thursday morning, Suffolk police said.

Ruben Veles, 46, of Brooklyn, was driving a 2012 Chevrolet van westbound on Motor Parkway when he tried to make a left turn into the parking lot of 648 Motor Parkway at the corner of Marcus Boulevard, police said. An eastbound 2001 Mack dump truck, driven by a Holtsville man, collided with the van at 7:09 a.m., police said.

Two passengers in the Chevrolet, Sergio Montesoca, 29, of Ridgewood, and Segundo Encalada, 34, of Ridgewood, are being treated for serious injuries at Stony Brook University Hospital, police said.

Veles is being treated for minor injuries at South Shore University Hospital in Bay Shore. The dump truck driver was not injured, police said.

Veles was issued a summons for unlicensed operator, police said.

The dump truck was inspected by Motor Carrier Safety Section officers and released to the driver. The Chevrolet was impounded for a safety check.
