Drunken Driver Gets Into Wrong-Way Head-On Crash In Hauppauge: PD

The drunken driver was seriously injured, police say. The four people in the other car suffered minor injuries, police say.

HAUPPAUGE, NY — A drunken man crashed his car into another vehicle while driving the wrong way on Veterans Memorial Highway in Hauppauge on Sunday night, Suffolk police said.

Marcus Cabrera, 24, of Bay Shore, was driving 2009 Audi A4 eastbound in the westbound lanes of Veterans Memorial Highway, near Lincoln Boulevard, when he crashed head-on into a 2006 Mitsubishi Eclipse, police said.

Cabrera was brought to Southside Hospital in Bay Shore for serious injuries that are not life-threatening, police said. The 24-year-old man driving the Mitsubishi and his three adult passengers were brought to the same hospital for treatment of minor injuries, police said.

Cabrera was charged with driving while intoxicated. He is scheduled to be arraigned at a later date.
