Hauppauge Boy Scout Troop 343 Assists with Cruizin for a Cure

Hauppauge Boy Scout Troop 343 Participates in Flag Ceremony/Assists with Cruizin for a Cure Prostate Awareness Day

Over the recent Sept 17 and18 weekend, Boy Scouts of Troop 343 (Hauppauge) assisted with Cruzin for a Cure Prostate Awareness Day (held at the Sears Auto Center’s Parking lot in Hicksville), in the 11th annual Cruizin for a Cure’s efforts to promote prostrate cancer awareness and offering free PSA testing at the annual event.

Since 2012, Troop 343 has been involved with helping at the entrances, collecting donations, and for the mid-day flag ceremonies at the podium. The scouts assisted with preparations and set ups on Saturday afternoon as well as all day on Sunday at the event at both entrance gates as well as helping with the after-event cleanup. When the Scouts and Adult Leaders were not working, they had the opportunity to walk around and check out the 503 vehicles from “hot rods” and muscle cars to antique and classic automobiles and motorcycles. There was also a RC model car race track, a food court, live Doo-Wop music and free PSA Screening courtesy of Winthrop Hospital (where 337 PSA tests were done).

There were 21 Boy Scouts, 7 volunteer scouting leaders, and 15 parents and siblings that donated their time during the day of Cruzin for the Cure Prostate Awareness Day 2016.
