Long Island Expressway Crash Leaves 1 Seriously Hurt: Police

The man was airlifted to Stony Brook University following the Monday morning crash, police say.

HAUPPAUGE, NY — A man was seriously hurt in a Monday morning crash on the Long Island Expressway in Hauppauge, Suffolk County police said.

He was driving a 1996 Toyota 4Runner westbound on the Long Island Expressway, near exit 56, when he swerved to avoid hitting a vehicle that had slowed for construction around 10:20 a.m., police said. The Toyota overturned, ejecting the driver, police said.

The man was flown to Stony Brook University Hospital. All westbound lanes on the expressway remained closed until around 1 p.m.

The vehicle was impounded for a safety check. Detectives are asking anyone with information on the crash to call the Fourth Squad at 631-854-8452.
