Long Island Weather: Strong Thunderstorms Possible Late Saturday Into Sunday
BREAKING: Some strong storms are approaching Long Island from the west. We've got the latest forecast.

Long Island may see some strong thunderstorms late Saturday into early Sunday, the National Weather Service says.
Things should remain dry until sunset Saturday and then the rain will begin to move in. The greatest chance for thunderstorms will come from about midnight until 6 a.m. Sunday. A few of the storms may produce gusty winds and heavy downpours are expected.
Unsettled weather is forecast for Sunday and Monday as another frontal system and area of low pressure approaches from the west, the NWS says.

Saturday Afternoon- Mostly sunny, with a high near 86. South wind around 7 mph.

Saturday Night- Showers and thunderstorms likely, mainly after midnight. Some of the storms could produce gusty winds and heavy rain. Cloudy, with a low around 73. South wind around 6 mph becoming light and variable. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.
Sunday- A 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly before noon. Mostly cloudy, with a steady temperature around 77. Northeast wind 8 to 11 mph becoming east in the afternoon.
Sunday Night- A 50 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 70. East wind 8 to 10 mph.
Monday- A 50 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 81. Southeast wind 5 to 9 mph becoming calm in the afternoon.
Monday Night- A 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 67.
Tuesday- Mostly sunny, with a high near 79.
